MOMA's Story

For the last 30 years, the fellowship-trained physicians at The Orthopedic Institute of Wisconsin, Innovative Pain Management, Sports Medicine and Orthopedic Center, Franklin Orthopedics, and Butler Orthopedics have treated patients independently in SE WI. These entities worked together at multiple facilities including founding The Surgery Center in Franklin over 20 years ago, and Midwest Orthopedic Specialty Hospital in Franklin over 16 years ago, further improving the care for their patients. 
Starting in 2024, in collaboration with Surgery Partners, a national health care leader, these organizations have banded together to create a complete musculoskeletal platform. MOMA was created to provide comprehensive musculoskeletal care from the moment of injury through diagnosis, imaging, non-operative treatment, surgery, rehabilitation, and complete recovery.

The Orthopedic Institute of Wisconsin

The Orthopedic Institute of Wisconsin (OIW) was organized to provide state-of-the-art diagnosis and treatment for patients with painful bone, muscle, tendon, and joint cartilage disorders. Its board-certified, fellowship-trained specialists each focus on a specific area of orthopedic care, offering a multi-specialty continuum of diagnosis, treatment, rehabilitation, education, and prevention.

OIW is a full-continuum orthopedic group with fellowship-trained subspecialists and convenient locations throughout the greater Milwaukee area and Southeastern Wisconsin, including Brookfield, Franklin, Milwaukee, Mequon, Mount Pleasant, and Wauwatosa.

Focus: Comprehensive surgical and non-surgical orthopedic care across foot and ankle, hand and wrist, hip, knee, shoulder, spine, sports medicine, trauma and fracture care, and work-related injuries.

Sports Medicine & Orthopedic Center

Sports Medicine & Orthopedic Center, S.C. (SMOC) is a Greenfield-based orthopedic practice committed to courteous, individualized, high-quality care for the full range of musculoskeletal injuries and conditions.

SMOC is a patient-centered practice that emphasizes treating the individual and their specific needs, led by experienced physicians including spine surgeon Dr. David L. Coran and hand and upper-extremity surgeon Dr. John A. Schneider — names that carry through to MOMA’s current physician roster.

Focus: Sports medicine, joint replacement surgery, spine care, fracture care, pediatric orthopedics, physical and occupational therapy, and care for the shoulder, hip, knee, hand and wrist, foot and ankle, and elbow.

Franklin Orthopedics

Franklin Orthopedics is a legacy web presence for the Orthopedic Institute of Wisconsin, presenting the practice as a world-class institute serving the Milwaukee area and surrounding communities such as Elm Grove, Brookfield, New Berlin, Hales Corners, Muskego, Greendale, Greenfield, and Wauwatosa.

Franklin Orthopedics features fellowship-trained orthopedic surgeons using the latest technology and surgical techniques, with a long-standing reputation for excellent, compassionate patient care.

Focus: Sports medicine, shoulder surgery, knee surgery, and joint reconstruction, including treatment of osteoarthritis, ACL and rotator cuff injuries, meniscus tears, carpal tunnel, and hip, knee, and shoulder joint replacement.

OrthoLazer Milwaukee has highly trained technicians focused exclusively on laser therapy, using advanced Class IV lasers and clinically validated, condition-specific protocols, with several MOMA-affiliated orthopedic surgeons serving on its Surgeon Advisory Board.

Smart Scan Imaging Center

Smart Scan Medical Imaging is MOMA’s affiliated diagnostic imaging partner, with a Milwaukee location housed inside the orthopedic clinic in Franklin.

Smart Scan Medical Imaging offers same-day/next-day appointments, results typically in 24–48 hours, ACR gold-seal accreditation, and scans interpreted by board-certified, fellowship-trained radiologists — all at a better value than hospital-based imaging.

Focus: MRI, CT, and ultrasound imaging for orthopedic, sports-injury, and general diagnostic needs, with the convenience of on-site coordination for follow-up orthopedic care.

MOSH PT (Physical Therapy & Hand Therapy)

MOSH PT is the physical therapy and hand therapy arm of Midwest Orthopedic Specialty Hospital, with multiple clinics across Southeastern Wisconsin.

MOSH PT is a gold-standard, orthopedic-specialized therapy program where rehabilitation can begin as early as the day of surgery, delivered by therapists who treat patients like family, and in Wisconsin patients can also see a physical therapist without a physician’s referral.

Focus: Physical therapy and specialized hand therapy to restore strength, flexibility, movement, balance, and function following injury, surgery, or chronic and acute musculoskeletal conditions.

The Surgery Center

The Surgery Center, LLC (TSC) in Franklin is an accredited, Medicare-approved ambulatory surgery center providing private, same-day outpatient surgical care. The facility includes five operating rooms, four procedure rooms, two endoscopy/GI rooms, and dedicated pre-op, post-op, and recovery areas.
