Knee Restoration Techniques

Find relief from knee pain when you take advantage of one of these sophisticated procedures:

Autologous Chondrocyte Implantation (ACI)

Removes a tiny portion of healthy cartilage cells from your body and places them in a lab to grow into new tissue, which a surgeon will then implant over damaged cartilage on the ends of bones in your knee

Debridement

Employs a minimally invasive, arthroscopic technique to eliminate damaged cartilage, smooth your knee’s surface and help your joint move more easily

Meniscus Transplant

Replaces a damaged or missing meniscus with donor tissue during a minimally invasive procedure to cushion the knee, relieve pain and protect the joint from further wear

Microfracture

Relies on a minimally invasive approach that creates tiny holes in your knee bones near damaged tissue to help make cartilage regrow

Osteochondral Autograft Transfer System (OATS)

Uses healthy tissue from your body or a donor to fill in a hole—or osteochondral defect—in your thighbone

Osteotomy

Realigns your knee with your shinbone or thighbone to shift weight off the painful, arthritic side of your joint

Intraosseous Bioplasty (IOBP)

Intraosseous bioplasty (IOBP) is a minimally invasive biologic alternative to knee replacement used to treat painful bone marrow lesions. During surgery, stem-cell-rich blood from your bone marrow is collected, concentrated, mixed with bone matrix, and injected into the subchondral bone to stimulate healing. Recovery typically involves three to four weeks of partial weight-bearing followed by physical therapy, with patients reporting excellent pain relief and improved day-to-day function.

Shoulder Restoration Techniques

If you experience shoulder discomfort, you may benefit from one of these advanced procedures:

Biologic Shoulder Replacement

An exchange of damaged cartilage in your shoulder’s ball and socket for healthy donor tissue during a minimally invasive, arthroscopic procedure that reduces your recovery time

Debridement

A minimally invasive, arthroscopic technique that removes damaged cartilage, smooths your shoulder’s surface and lets your joint move more easily

Microfracture

A minimally invasive surgery that creates tiny holes in your shoulder bones near damaged tissue to help make cartilage regrow and help relieve your joint pain

Shoulder Resurfacing

A procedure that Midwest Orthopedic and Musculoskeletal Alliance surgeons developed to cover the damaged cartilage of your shoulder’s socket with healthy tissue from a donor

Shoulder Tendon Augmentation

Shoulder tendon augmentation reinforces a repaired or weakened rotator cuff tendon using a biologic or synthetic graft (patch) to support healing and strengthen the repair. It may be recommended for large, complex, or re-torn rotator cuff injuries where the native tendon needs extra reinforcement. By augmenting the tendon, this approach aims to improve the durability of the repair and reduce the risk of re-tearing.

Shoulder Spacer

A shoulder spacer is a biodegradable balloon implant placed beneath the acromion during a minimally invasive procedure to cushion the joint when a rotator cuff tear cannot be fully repaired. It allows the shoulder to glide more smoothly, easing pain and improving motion while the body gradually absorbs the spacer over time. This option may benefit patients with irreparable rotator cuff tears who want to avoid more extensive surgery.

Hip Restoration Techniques

To treat hip pain, take advantage of one of these advanced procedures:

  • Hip arthroscopy – Uses a minimally invasive technique to treat conditions such as torn cartilage, loose tissue and bone spurs
  • Microfracture – Relies on a minimally invasive approach that creates tiny holes in your hip bone near damaged tissue to help make cartilage regrow.

Biologics

Patients who choose Midwest Orthopedic and Musculoskeletal Alliance have the unique advantage of receiving their medical evaluation and care from a team of doctors who are leaders in the fields of regenerative medicine/joint restoration, orthopedic surgery, and sports medicine. Our highly trained and experienced physicians provide patients of all ages and conditions with the latest nonsurgical regenerative therapies and rehabilitative treatment options that promote the body’s natural ability to heal itself.

The Midwest Orthopedic and Musculoskeletal Alliance Sports Medicine and Joint Restoration specialists are often able to utilize state-of-the-art non-operative alternatives to start the healing process prior to proceeding with surgery.

Your treatment team may have you start with physical therapy, NSAIDs, corticosteroids or other research-backed biologic treatments prior to considering surgery – or as an adjunct to your surgical recovery.

Biologics are a group of treatments that can up-regulate your body’s cells to diminish inflammation and decrease symptoms. These treatments will be focused on the specific joint or tissue involved in your orthopedic problem.

Biologic Treatment Options

Midwest Orthopedic and Musculoskeletal Alliance Biologics offers 3 types of treatments to help with your orthopedic needs:

1. Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP)

Blood is taken from your vein, like a routine blood test, and placed in a centrifuge. This is then separated into reparative aspects of the plasma, healing proteins and growth factors. The PRP is then injected into the affected joint or tissue to reduce inflammation and improve healing. This process takes about an hour.

2. Bone Marrow Aspirate Concentrate (BMAC)

Bone marrow is removed from bone (typically the pelvis) and is placed in a centrifuge. The fluid is then divided into the reparative aspects of the bone marrow, like PRP. The BMAC is then injected into the joint or tissue to help reduce symptoms and improve your body’s ability to heal itself.

3. OrthoLazer

This painless treatment uses photons (light energy) to stimulate cells to diminish inflammation in the region of pain. The photons are provided by a state-of-the-art robotic MLS M8 laser. This is a non-invasive treatment that can be used repeatedly and in conjunction with PRP or BMAC to ease musculoskeletal inflammation and pain.

These Biologic Treatments Are Designed To

  • Reduce pain
  • Improve motion
  • Help restore activity and mobility
  • Reduce soreness and inflammation from arthritis
  • Increase stability and steadiness
  • Improve sleep
  • Delay the need for surgery
